The term

What does Ayurveda-Massage mean?

The Ayurvedic massage is a key component of Ayurveda, the over 5000-year-old Indian system of healing, which focuses on balancing the body, mind, and soul. This massage technique utilizes warm, high-quality herbal oils tailored to an individual's constitution type (Dosha): Vata, Pitta, or Kapha.

The massage involves gentle, rhythmic strokes and targeted pressure techniques that are both relaxing and rejuvenating. It promotes so-called detoxification, improves blood circulation, calms the nervous system, and activates the body’s own regulatory processes. Special attention is given to the head and feet, as these areas are considered energy centers in Ayurveda.

Depending on the technique, Ayurvedic massage can take various forms, such as Abhyanga (full-body oil massage), Shirodhara (oil flow on the forehead), or Udvartana (herbal scrub massage). Each treatment is performed with mindfulness in a serene atmosphere to create a deep sense of well-being and inner harmony.

Häufige Fragen

Is Abhyanga the same as Ayurvedic massage?

Abhyanga is a particular form of Ayurvedic massage: an oil massage, often covering the whole body and using warm oil. Ayurvedic massage is the broader term. Partial-body massages and treatments using other materials are also offered within Ayurveda.

What do Vata, Pitta and Kapha mean in Ayurvedic massage?

Vata, Pitta and Kapha are the three doshas in Ayurveda. Within this traditional system, they describe a person's constitution and characteristics and may guide the choice of oil or treatment sequence. This classification is a traditional model, not a medical diagnosis.
