Faszien

Fascia is a web-like connective tissue that surrounds and supports structures throughout the body and contributes to mobility.

The term

What does Faszien mean?

Fascia is a web-like connective tissue that extends throughout the entire body, surrounding muscles, organs, and bones. It consists of collagen fibers and elastic proteins, playing a crucial role in mobility, stability, and posture.

In addition to providing structural support, fascia is involved in sensory perception and signal transmission. Adhesions or hardening of the fascia can lead to pain and restricted movement, which is why techniques such as fascia massage, stretching exercises, or fascia training are used to release tension.

Research on fascia highlights that regular movement, hydration, and targeted training are essential to maintaining its elasticity and function. In physiotherapy, osteopathy, and sports science, fascia treatment is becoming increasingly important to alleviate discomfort and enhance physical performance.

Questions & answers

Häufige Fragen

Is fascia the same as muscle?

No. Muscles actively contract to produce movement. Fascia consists of connective tissue and surrounds, connects or separates muscles and other structures in the body. They work together but differ in both structure and function.

Does feeling stiff automatically mean that fascia is stuck?

No. Stiffness or limited movement can have many causes and cannot be identified as fascial adhesion from the sensation alone. Muscle tension, joints and pain processing can also contribute. The common phrase 'stuck fascia' therefore does not replace an examination.
