Muskelverspannung

Muscle tension is a painful tightening or hardening of the muscles that can be associated with posture, stress or a lack of movement.

The term

What does Muskelverspannung mean?

Muscle tension is a persistent tightening of the muscles, often caused by overuse, poor posture, stress, or lack of movement. Tight muscles often feel painful and stiff, potentially restricting mobility.

Muscle tension commonly occurs in the neck, shoulders, or back. It can lead to headaches, muscle fatigue, and reduced circulation. If left untreated, muscle tension may result in poor posture or chronic pain over time.

Treatments for muscle tension include massages, heat therapy, stretching exercises, and targeted movement therapies. Relaxation techniques such as yoga or meditation can also help relieve tension and relax the muscles.

  • Persistent muscle tightness
  • Often caused by stress, poor posture, or lack of movement
  • Common in the neck, back, and shoulders
  • Can lead to headaches and poor circulation
  • Treated with massages, heat therapy, and stretching exercises

Häufige Fragen

How does muscle tension differ from post-exercise soreness?

Muscle tension is usually experienced as persistent tightness, tenderness or stiffness. Delayed-onset muscle soreness typically appears after unfamiliar exercise and is associated with small exercise-related changes in muscle tissue. They may feel similar, but the terms do not describe the same thing.

Why does neck tension often return?

Staying in one position for a long time, repetitive loading and stress can contribute to recurring neck discomfort. A massage may feel soothing temporarily but does not automatically change these contributing factors. Varied movement and appropriately paced exercise therefore also have a role.
