Akupressur

Acupressure is a TCM technique in which selected pressure points are stimulated with the fingers to support relaxation and a sense of balance.

The term

What does Akupressur mean?

Acupressure is a treatment method in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that focuses on stimulating specific pressure points along the meridians. This technique is similar to acupuncture, but instead of needles, gentle pressure and circular motions are applied using fingers, hands, or special massage tools.

Acupressure presses on intact skin; an acupuncture needle penetrates it. The points belong to the traditional TCM model.

The goal of acupressure is to balance the body's energy flow (Qi), remove blockages, and support well-being. Applying targeted pressure to acupressure points can help relieve pain, ease tension, and enhance overall well-being.

Acupressure is commonly used to alleviate headaches, back pain, digestive issues, stress, and sleep disorders. It can be practiced as a standalone therapy or in combination with acupuncture, Shiatsu, or Tuina massage.

Häufige Fragen

How does acupressure differ from acupuncture?

Both approaches refer to the point system of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Acupressure applies pressure to selected areas with fingers or hands, while acupuncture uses fine needles. Acupressure therefore involves neither needles nor puncturing the skin.

Are acupressure points the same as trigger points?

No. Acupressure points are assigned to pathways in the traditional TCM model. Trigger points refer to pressure-sensitive areas within muscles. Some locations may overlap, but the terms belong to different explanatory and treatment approaches.
